Sep 11 ~ Roy Zimmerman Fundraiser for KPFT & Houston Social Forum (HSF) (Sun) Proceeds will benefit both KPFT and HSF which PAA is helping to organize. At the Aurora Picture Show 800 Aurora, just off N. Main and south of the north 610 loop in Houston. Roy is a political satirist, songwriter, and performer. If Gandhi had played guitar, grown hair and sung at the top of his lungs, he still wouldn't have had Roy Zimmerman's wicked sense of musical satire. On the other hand, Roy Zimmerman has never liberated a nation from a tyrannical oppressor. He's working on it though, one song at a time. Roy sings a compelling combination of socially conscious comedy and original music. It's Lenny Bruce meets Stephen Sondheim meets Phil Ochs in Brian Wilson's living room. The Los Angeles Times says, "Zimmerman displays a lacerating wit and keen awareness of society's foibles that bring to mind a latter-day Tom Lehrer." Tickets: $20 at the door, $16 in advance, $10 students. More info on Roy & his songs / 9-11 Fundraiser Flyer / HSF info page

Event Description:

With brutal honesty and a touch of irony, The End of Suburbia explores the American way of life and its prospects as the planet approaches a critical era, as global demand for fossil fuels begins to outstrip supply. World Oil Peak and the inevitable decline of fossil fuels are upon us, say some experts in this documentary. Matthew Simmons, who is interviewed in the documentary, is the CEO of the world's largest Energy Investment Bank, Simmons & Co. International, with clients including Halliburton and the World Bank. Simmons is a also a member of the US Council on Foreign Relations and the National Petroleum Council's Natural Gas Task Force and, as such, has contributed "insider" perspective and hard facts to the study of Peak Oil and its effects. Mr. Simmons will be available to answer questions afterward.
