Join thousands of others in the Houston area, who value what MLK stood for, at the ORIGINAL Martin Luther King, Jr. parade, in downtown Houston.
This is the parade that was originated 30 years ago by Ovide Duncantelle, tht is coordinated by the Black Heritage Society, and which remains true to MLK's legacy.
(The other so-called MLK parade, organized by Charles Stamps, is the one that is filled with ROTC groups and other militaristic entries. It is also on the same day, but don't be confused even though it has a bunch of corporate sponsors.)

February 20th-- Manufactured Landscapes
Description: Manufactured Landscapes is the portrait of one man's voyage as it follows celebrated still photographer Edward Burtynsky on a tour of Asia. Burtynsky takes large-format stills of industrial landscapes: factory workers lined up to infinity, giant ships eviscerated, massive recycling dumps, expansive strip mines. His goal is to portray humanity's relationship to nature as we pursue progress. Director Jennifer Baichwal makes insightful choices. The film perfectly balances the images of Burtynsky with those of talented cinematographer/creative consultant Peter Mettler And when Burtynsky speaks, he neither celebrates nor condemns but simply explores who we are in relation to our planet. We extract things from the environment to survive, and that is damaging the world

Friedman looks at various "green" technologies - hydroelectric, solar, wind, and nuclear power, hybrid, electric, and hydrogen fuel-cell cars, clean-coal, biofuels, and energy-conservation methods - being adopted by American businesses and families today, to reduce the output of the greenhouse gases and help ensure greater political stability throughout the world.

Former Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney (D-GA), the current Green Party Presidential front-runner, will be in Houston on Tuesday, February 12 at 7:00 PM at the S.H.A.P.E. Center Administration Building, 3903 Almeda.
There is no admission charge; everyone is invited to this fundraiser, benefiting Cynthia McKinney's campaign and ballot access for the Green Party of Texas.
Ms. McKinney seeks $5,000 in small donations in 20 or more states to make sure she qualifies for matching funds, and she naturally wants to be on the ballot in Texas (one of the most difficult states in which to attain ballot access) as well as the 50 other state-like entities.
Come meet Cynthia and support true grass-roots democracy!
