Sep 13 2006 - 9:00pm

Event Description:

View Kilowatt Ours, a movie on how to save money on your electricity bill and thus protect the climate, at Rice University Media Center.  The movie exposes how devastating coal mining for electricity generation can be.

Governor Perry of Texas is speeding along permits for 17 new dirty coal fired electicity generating plants in Texas.  Houston's Mayor White and 14 other Texas mayors oppose the new plants.

"Kilowatt Ours: A Plan to Re-Energize America" (Jeff Barrie, 2005) traces the wires from our light switches to the power source, revealing how electricity is generated in the southeastern United States. This acclaimed documentary provides a hopeful look at how energy conservation and renewable power can help to improve the quality of life in the Southeast. "Kilowatt Ours" also provides practical ideas for consumers to lower their energy bills, showcasing successful examples of homes, businesses and schools in the Southeast that are saving hundreds--even thousands--of dollars annually on their energy bills.

"Kilowatt Ours" is part of the Southern Energy Conservation Initiative (SECI), educating consumers about the benefits of energy conservation and renewable power generation. For more information, or to request your own "Kilowatt Ours" DVD, log on to: www.KilowattOurs.org
