ACLU, ACLU of TX, and The Weinstein Co., present the Dixie Chicks' movie, a pre-screening of "Shut Up & Sing"

Nov 16 2006 - 7:00pm
Nov 16 2006 - 9:00pm

Event Description:

The ACLU, the ACLU of Texas, and the Weinstein Company are presenting a pre-premier screening of the Dixie Chicks' movie, "Shut Up & Sing".  During the drum beating for invading Iraq, the Dixie Chicks were brave enough to say "We're ashamed that the President of the United States is from Texas".  This resulted in radio stations across the US banning them from the airwaves.  Now there's a movie that tells their story.

The movie from two time Academy Award-winning documentary filmmaker Barbara Kopple and Cecelia Peck chronicles the lives of the Dixie Chicks from 2003 to the start of their 2006 tour.  All the highs, lows and mayhem that occurred just before and for the three years following “the incident” are all here.  The personal attacks, personal growth, a changing world, making music, having babies, receiving death threats, and even a fair amount of laughter.

Please RSVP if you want to attend the film and reception:

Q&A afterwards with filmmaker Cecilia Peck, reception to follow at Mykonos Island Restaurant, 2181 Richmond, corner of Greenbriar.

The movie is from The Weinstein Company and Cabin Creek Films.
