Sep 9, 11: Events to save Frances Newton from execution (Thur, Sun.)
Frances Newton has only 9 DAYS to live unless Rick Perry delays her
execution so she can get a new trial. She's scheduled to be executed
on September 14 in Huntsville. If you can spare an hour or maybe an
afternoon, or even just 5 minutes to write a postcard, join with us
to save the life of an innocent woman, who was "defended" by the same
lawyer who slept through other trials, and didn't even bother to
interview witnesses before Frances' trial. See
http://freefrances.org/ for more details.
See http://freefrances.org/Come20050808.htm for a list of events in
the next week, including:
Fri. Sep. 9, 8-10 pm
Free Frances DVD showing, Q &A session
at The Artery, 5401 Jackson at Prospect in Houston
Sun. Sep. 11 3-10 pm
Free Frances Newton JUSTICE RALLY
at The Omni, 1927 Scott at I-45, Houston
The PAA voted at the last meeting to donate funds to help with this
campaign. Can you help with a little time, and send a postcard to
Gov. Perry?

Sep 11 ~ Roy Zimmerman Fund Raiser for KPFT & Houston Social Forum (Sun.)
with local band "Listen Listen"
Enjoy a fun evening with a brilliant political satirist/musician,
local musicians, and your fellow activists friends, while supporting
two worthwhile organizations.
I'll be there, and hope to see you, too!
Sunday, Sep. 11, 7:00-9:15 pm
Come early to grab some refreshments and hear Houston band "Listen Listen".
Doors open at 6:30 pm
Proceeds will benefit both KPFT and HSF, which PAA is helping to organize.
Roy Zimmerman is a political satirist, songwriter, and performer. If
Gandhi had played guitar, grown hair and sung at the top of his
lungs, he still wouldn't have had Roy's wicked sense of musical
satire. On the other hand, Roy Zimmerman has never liberated a nation
from a tyrannical oppressor. He's working on it though, one song at a
time.
Roy sings a compelling combination of socially conscious comedy and
original music. It's Lenny Bruce meets Stephen Sondheim meets Phil
Ochs in Brian Wilson's living room.
The Los Angeles Times says, "Zimmerman displays a lacerating wit and
keen awareness of society's foibles that bring to mind a latter-day
Tom Lehrer."

Aurora Picture Show http://AuroraPictureShow.org/
800 Aurora, just east of N. Main and south of the north 610 loop in Houston.
Park on Aurora, or at 6608 N. Main (just one short block north of Aurora).

Roy is also playing at other venues in the area this week, but these
do not benefit KPFT or the HSF. Only the Sunday event benefits these
two groups. If you can't come Sunday, though, he'll be at Thoreau
Unitarian Universalist Congregation http://tuuc.org in Stafford on
Friday, and at Millbend Coffeehouse http://millbend.org/ in the
Woodlands Saturday evening. Call 281-350-3052 for more information
on those two dates.
Tickets: $20 at the door, $16 in advance (BEFORE Sunday), $12 students.
You may pay for tickets online with the Paypal link on the PAA's web
site, and get the advance ticket price:
http://progressiveactionalliance.org/
Just click on the Paypal link, then enter "Roy Zimmerman-XX" in the
Payment For box, where XX indicates the number of tickets you wish to
get. We'll get an automatic e-mail notification when you do this, so
we will know who bought the tickets.
You'll also be able to hear Roy along with Cindy Sheehan during "The
Progressive Forum" show, 7-9 pm this Thursday on KPFT, 90.1 FM in
Houston, http://kpftx.org in the archives (if you miss the live
program Thursday evening).

Can you help compile information for these listings?
If you have an hour or two to spare each week (or even just
occasionally), I'd appreciate it if you could help me compile the
info for this periodic e-mail. I'll tell you where to get it. It's
not difficult. It's a great way to ensure that your favorite event
is included and that I don't forget about it.
Contact Bill at if you can help.
