For the last few years, Michael Klare, Five Colleges Professor of Peace and World Security Studies, has written on the global struggle for resources and the wars they prompt. He will be in Houston for two nights to develop these themes and sign his latest book. A regular foreign policy analyst for The Nation, Mother Jones, and other publications, Klare also serves on the boards of directors of Human Rights Watch and the Arms Control Association. His extensive writing on foreign and military affairs dates back to the 1970s, and includes studies on low-intensity conflict, arms trafficking, U.S. counter-insurgency, and, more recently, Resource Wars and Blood and Oil: The Dangers and Consequences of America's Growing Petroleum Dependency. This hour-long documentary is based on Michael Klare's recent work. Following the screening, both Klare and Matthew Simmons, author of Twilight in the Desert: The Coming Saudi Oil Shock and the World Economy, will be on hand to make some remarks and engage in discussion with those attending the event.
