name="Young">Update on PDA's First Congressional Endorsement

A few months ago PDA made our first Congressional endorsement with Steve Young. His race is in the final days. The special election will be held on December 5th. Steve is running against two conservatives, Republican State Senator John Campbell and American Independent, Jim Gilchrist, founder of the border vigilante group, the Minute Man Project. What fun! They split the republican vote and we turn out a big chunk of the 110,000 democrats in the district and we win!
PDA is going full force to make sure Steve Young is elected! PDA's Director, Tim Carpenter will be on the ground this week helping get the progressive vote out. We ask you to help as well. If you can take time to help make phone calls into this Congressional District, please join the Virtual Phone Bank. Your computer and a phone is all that you need. Just send an e-mail to our Orange County PDA coordinator, Dr. Bill at href="mailto:">, and in the subject put "Virtual Phone Bank." In the body of your message tell Dr. Bill how many blocks of calls you would like to make. One block represents 50 phone numbers. Doug will send you back a log-in and password for each block you request, as well as instruction for calling and downloading a phone script.
If you can not help with phone banking, consider making a small contribution to PDA to help our on ground GOTV efforts for a Peace Candidate!

National Call-in Day

COMING SOON: Announcement of a National Call-In Day to End the War

Tuesday, December 6th (the day Congress resumes after the holidays) we're asking you to call, email and fax your Congress members to lobby for an end to the war in Iraq. This National
Call-in Day, organized by PDA together with United for Peace and Justice and many other peace organizations, aims to flood Congress members' offices with our message for bringing this war to a close. More details coming soon on our web site!

Sign Petition for Bill to End War Funding

PDA is continuing to collect signatures on a petition to support Congressman Jim McGovern's bill to end funding of the war while paying for the safe and orderly return of U.S. troops. Please sign the petition and ask your Congress Member to co-sponsor the bill: http://pdamerica.org/petition/mcgovern-petition.php

This Week's PDA DNC Meetings

This week also marks the date that the Democratic National Committee meets in Phoenix, Arizona for its fall meeting. There are several items on its agenda and potentially several resolutions to be debated. PDA will be here to greet all the DNC members with a welcome reception. We will demonstrate to the DNC that the progressive, pro-peace, pro-democracy, pro-social justice movement is organized and a growing force within the party. If you can make it to Phoenix, make sure you drop by one of our events. If you can't, please support our work by staying in contact through our blog. We will be posting updates throughout the week.
The events:
  • href="https://www.pdamerica.org/dnc-tickets.php" target="_blank">A Progressive Reception with the DNC, December 1 at 8:00 pm MST.
  • PDA Activist Training 101, December 3 at 9:00am MST (details to be announced at www.pdamerica.org).

1,000 Executions in the United States

As the United States approaches its 1000th execution since the resumption of executions in 1977, more and more people understand that the death penalty makes mistakes; disproportionately affects the poor and people of color; doesn't deter crime;, and is expensive, arbitrary, and immoral. Join us in saying "We get it, enough already--abolish the death penalty." We urge you to
host an event in connection to the upcoming milestone of 1000 U.S. executions and the death penalty in general.
