On Friday, June 27, Artist Rescue Mission (ARM) http://artistrescuemission.org will auction 31 paintings by 8 different artists living in Iraq to benefit those same artists. Beginning at 7:00 p.m. at G Gallery http://ggalleryhouston.com at 301 E 11th Street, the Benefit offers assistance to the artists and insight into the war-torn Iraq, art meant “to tell about the suffering of our artists inside our wounded Iraq,” as one of the artists, Salem Al Haj writes.

Former Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney (D-GA), the current Green Party Presidential front-runner, will be in Houston on Tuesday, February 12 at 7:00 PM at the S.H.A.P.E. Center Administration Building, 3903 Almeda.
There is no admission charge; everyone is invited to this fundraiser, benefiting Cynthia McKinney's campaign and ballot access for the Green Party of Texas.
Ms. McKinney seeks $5,000 in small donations in 20 or more states to make sure she qualifies for matching funds, and she naturally wants to be on the ballot in Texas (one of the most difficult states in which to attain ballot access) as well as the 50 other state-like entities.

This spring, Iraq Veterans Against the War (IVAW) are revealing the reality of the U.S. occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan. In what will be history's largest gathering of U.S. veterans of the "war on terror," as well as Iraqi and Afghan survivors, eyewitnesses will share their experiences in a public investigation called Winter Soldier: Iraq and Afghanistan (http://www.ivaw.org/wintersoldier). To help fund the operation of the Winter Soldier conference, the Houston chapter of Veterans for Peace is hosting a fundraiser featuring local musicians at Dan Electros Guitar Bar at 1131 E. 24th St. in the Heights 3-7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23.

Funds raised will be used for the economic development of women in Palestine, including the funding of the first women-owned and operated cannery in the West Bank. Join other progressive activists for the best pizza in town plus great stand-up comedy by Chuck Montgomery. Montgomery is a pioneer and 26-year veteran of the Houston comedy scene, having started his career at the Comedy Workshop in 1978. During the eighties and nineties, he headlined countless comedy clubs and college shows. In his pre-television years, Drew Carey opened for Chuck. He has worked with Sam Kennison, Rosie O'Donnell, Ellen DeGeneres, Pat Paulson, Brett Butler, and many others.
