We plan for this fortnightly show to have people talk about how Harris County should help down-and-out people caught up in the criminal system. As it is, judges appoint defense attorneys, with next to no money provided for them. Meanwhile, the prosecution has large staff and other resources. We'll explore the ins and outs of the way things are, and make the case for a better way of administering justice.

Nick Lampson voted for the "Protect America 2007" bill that allows the executive branch, with no judicial oversight, to intercept and record all electronic communications between people abroad and here in the US. This de facto gives them the right to listen to anyone, anytime for any purpose with no need to justify or even acknowledge that they are doing it. It is absurd to think that this administration will not use that power for its own political ends. It will not prevent communication between people who have something to fear from the government hearing what they are saying, as e-mails can always be encrypted, and encryption is legal in Europe. We wish to put some public heat on Lampson for this vote, and ask all who are appalled by the cave in of the Democrats to this totally unnecessary violation of our rights to privacy to join us, in a picket in the street outside his office in Clear Lake.
