[PAA-Webteam] names of e-mail posters don't show up in forums

Charlie or Sarah,

I've noticed that the names of people sending notes to our new e-mail
lists do not show up in the forums (unless you put your name inthe
body of the e-mail). They just show up as being from "PAAMember".
Messages that are posted to the forum on the web site DO have the
posters name, though.

What would it take to have the person's name appear in postings on
the forums, that come from e-mails that are cross-posted?

They have to be members of our site in order for the name to show up
in the post - PAA Member is the "name" of an anonymous poster. We had
to jump through hoops to make this happen the way we wanted it. As we
add PAA folks and make them actual members of the site, their names
will appear as you would expect. For an example of that, see here:

for the PAA folks to actually become registered users of the site.
We're not quite ready for that yet, but soon. Until then,
regardless, we must have some method of messages to cross post to the
forums. This also applies b/c people have a myriad of email addresses
from which they send messages.

hope that helps!
thx,

Sarah -- I'm a registered user on the PAA site, and I assume you are,
too, but our posts to the e-mail lists are showing up as from
"PAAMember" in the forums, without our name listed. For example,
look at the webteam forum at http://www.paa-tx.org/forum/59 . It
makes it difficult to tell which messages are coming from whom.

Yes, that looks like it's working correctly. Howver, are these all
from postings people made via the forum on the web site (which I
think is working fine on the PAA site, too) or were they from
cross-postings from e-mails sent to the list address?

Is there something else we need to do to register for this, in
addtion to having a user name? Maybe it doesn't recognize my e-mail
address? I think the only postings on the forums that have the
poster's name listed are the ones made via the web site, not from
cross-postings from e-mail.

that is a possibility - if you log in, there's a place in your
account settings to specify email aliases - the forums do pick up on
the aliases. I was actually wondering about that myself - not sure
why it's not working the way it should- I'll have to look at it later.

thx,
