[PAA-Webteam] PAA domain names renewals
Some of the domain names we registered for PAA
are due for renewal in about 3 weeks. These are:
progressiveactionalliance.org
paa-tx.org
progressive-action-alliance.org
In addition, I registered the following domains
in January, so we won't have to worry about them
for a while:
progressiveactionalliance.com
progressiveactionalliance.net
I registered all the above ones through Verio,
for $9.95/year each. Unless someone sees a
reason to change domain name registrars, I'll
just stick with them when we renew. The cheapest
places I've seen are only $2-3 less than this and
I don't know how reputable they are or whether it
would be worth the trouble to change. Verio is a
US and Australian company in case anyone cares.
Do we want to renew all of the above domain
names, and perhaps add paa-tx.com and paa-tx.net?
Maybe even paatx.org?
In case anyone has forgotten, we registered the
.com and .net versions of
progressiveactionalliance.org so no one else
could grab them, and also so we could make sure
that anyone who typed in any of these other
variations would get to the right web site.
(They all point to
progressiveactionalliance.org.) We haven't done
that yet for paa-tx.org, though.
At least with our registrar, the "www." before
each of our domain names is optional and it
doesn't matter whether people type it in or not.
(With some registrars, it apparently does matter.)
I guess everyone remembers that paa.org, paa.com,
paa.net, and paa.us were all taken by other
organizations and are not available.
We're not really using
progressive-action-alliance.org and I don't know
if anyone would ever try typing this in, so we
may not need it. It is easier to read, though,
and can be used on printed flyers, etc. if we
want. Of course, the paa-tx.org is shorter and
may be easier to use, as long as people don't
miss the "-" when they type in the domain name.
This may be a good reason to add paatx.org, and
drop progressive-action-alliance.org, especially
if we want to keep using paa-tx.org?
Google, Yahoo, Lycos, and MSN all find
www.progressiveactionalliance.org when you search
for progressive action alliance, so that's good.
As soon as we get all the content moved over from
our old web site we can point
progressiveactionalliance.org to our new web site
at paa-tx.org, and also point the other domain
names there.
So, which domains do we want to renew and/or add?
And is it OK to stay with Verio?
See the renewal notice I got from Verio below, if you are interested.
