[Houston Social Forum] Promoting our Sep. 11 fundraiser
Fellow HSF'ers,
I know everyone's been busy lately with the Bring them Home Now Tour
(last week), Katrina relief efforts (this week) and all your regular
stuff, but we need to do whatever we can to remind people about our
fund raiser this Sunday evening with Roy Zimmerman and Listen Listen.
It won't be a fund raiser for the HSF, and might even be a fund
loser, if turnout is poor. We can't count on people to come just
because they heard an announcement on KPFT.
Personal contacts are best, and personal e-mails are OK as reminders.
We need to stress that it will be a fun evening where people can
relax with other activists, listen to music and political satire,
pass out flyers for whatever event THEY want to promote, etc. And of
course mention that the funds raised will help KPFT and the HSF.
We also need to see who can bring refreshments and/or baked goods for
Sunday so we can earn some additional funds.
I took some of the flyers from our web site (
http://www.progressiveactionalliance.org/Downloads/Roy_Zimmerman_HSF_flyer2.pdf
, there's also a link in the Sep. 11 event listing) to the Democracy
for Houston meeting Wed. night, and gave them to everyone. I got
there early so I could pass them out to people individually and ask
them to come, and also made a brief announcement near the end of the
meeting. I mentioned the fundraiser, who Roy Zimmerman was, that
they could hear him tomorrow night on The Progressive Forum (7-9 pm
on KPFT), that I had tickets, that the event would be a good place to
distribute info on other events, etc. Several people seemed
interested but no one bought a ticket from me. But I think a few may
come.
We need to do the same thing at the PAA meeting tomorrow evening
(when we'll have more time to talk about this) and at all over
political events in the area before Sun. evening.
I also plan to attend the Heights Democrats meeting Saturday morning
and doing the same thing then, too.
Teresa has also been promoting our event, and I've heard the PSA
several times on KPFT. But we need to personally ask more people, as
this is what works best to get them there.
Can each of you please look at the events listed on the Houston
Indymedia calendar and/or the HPJC events calendar, (between now and
Sunday evening) and go to at least one of these events, armed with
flyers and tickets? Reply back to this list so we all know which
events you want to cover.
If you want to e-mail a reminder to friends and ask them to come,
feel free to use any or all of what I sent out to our PAA
announcements list a couple of days ago, in my list of upcoming
events. See below.
Thanks!
Bill
