Dear Sisters and Brothers,
In response to the threat posed by the racist Minutemen, the Coalition against Intolerance and for Respect is organizing a spirited, peaceful, and legal rally this coming Saturday, October 8, at 3 pm at Burnett Bayland Park, 6000 Chimney Rock at Gulfton. The rally will include speakers, music, and poets.
This is a very important event. It is imperative for all of us to stand in unity and solidarity with our immigrant brothers and sisters who are under increasing attack from the Far Right. Please join us in defending the rights and dignity of all people-and demanding fair, just immigration reform with permanent residence for all, and fair trade policies. Houston needs to be a hate-free zone!
A bilingual flyer for the demonstration is attached. For more information, please call (832) 392-8777 or (832) 282-6997.
In Solidarity,
Rona and David

November 2, the first anniversary of Bush's "re-election", we will take the first major step in this by organizing a truly massive day of resistance all over this country. People everywhere will walk out of school, they will take off work, they will come to the downtowns and town squares and set out from there, going through the streets and calling on many more to JOIN US. They will repudiate this criminal regime, making a powerful statement: "NO! THIS REGIME DOES NOT REPRESENT US! AND WE WILL DRIVE IT OUT!"

To be held in front of Houston City Hall.
The goal of this rally is not to advocate for one particular solution to this complex issue, but to raise this issue to the moral consciousness of our society. We believe that the wealthiest nation in the world, which often speaks of "values", has a moral obligation to find a way to erase this great and obvious divide between the rich and the poor, the haves and the have-nots. We are also going to voice our opposition to the proposed Medicaid cuts, which will leave many Katrina survivors and other Americans without insurance.
