November 2, the first anniversary of Bush's "re-election", we will take the first major step in this by organizing a truly massive day of resistance all over this country. People everywhere will walk out of school, they will take off work, they will come to the downtowns and town squares and set out from there, going through the streets and calling on many more to JOIN US. They will repudiate this criminal regime, making a powerful statement: "NO! THIS REGIME DOES NOT REPRESENT US! AND WE WILL DRIVE IT OUT!"

Event Description:

To be held in front of Houston City Hall.

The goal of this rally is not to advocate for one particular solution to this complex issue, but to raise this issue to the moral consciousness of our society. We believe that the wealthiest nation in the world, which often speaks of "values", has a moral obligation to find a way to erase this great and obvious divide between the rich and the poor, the haves and the have-nots. We are also going to voice our opposition to the proposed Medicaid cuts, which will leave many Katrina survivors and other Americans without insurance.

The McCain amendment to ban "cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment" of any detainee of the U.S. passed the senate 90-9.  Texas senator John Cornyn was one of only nine senators to vote against the McCain amendment.  Bush and Cheney want an exception so that the CIA can continue to torture.
